Demonetization to fight corruption?

This is a sequel to my earlier blog post (dated November 7), which refers to the government’s recent scheme of demonetization of the 500 and 1000 Rupee currency notes, and circulate new 500 and 2000 Rupee notes.

While launching the scheme the Prime Minister (PM) and Finance Minister (FM) claimed that the scheme was an effective tool to fight corruption. Although I support demonetization, yet I would express my contention that their scheme cannot help in fighting corruption in the society in general, and in the government circles in particular.

My argument is that those who indulge in corruption do so because corruption is inherently present in their blood or genes or personality – in whichever way you would like to describe that picture.
